Morrissy Honors program students

Morrissy Honors Program students Bethani Newbold, Rebecca Becraft, Ziomara Herrera, Zenate Le, Melanie Makada, and Emma Mueller recently completed Capstone projects for their Spring course IDS 374 - Gaming and Society. Associate Professor Ryan Schaaf and the Director of the Morrissy Program, Dr. Evelyn Spratt, invited Shannon Bishop, Director of Content at PBS Kids Digital, to listen to video game proposals developed by student groups. Students successfully pitched their games to Bishop, and enjoyed her industry expertise as she provided valuable feedback to the group.

School of Education

SOE members at the Flourishing Retreat

Ten educators, who teach at all levels and across various districts in the state of Maryland, participated in the School of Education’s second annual “Educator Flourishing Retreat” at Bon Secours Retreat Center in Marriottsville, Maryland, from May 12-14, 2023. The retreat included modalities in wellness, mindfulness, community building, and flourishing, all designed to “fill the cup” of educators, and tackle both the burnout cascade and stanch the teacher shortage, realities both inherent to the profession and emblematic of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Drs. Molly Dunn and Kristine E. Larson developed the curriculum and led the three-day retreat.

Stephanie Hastings

Stephanie Hastings, an adjunct faculty member in the School of Education, has been selected to attend the “Liberty and Justice For All?: Freedom and Citizenship in the New Republic” Summer Teacher Institute at the Maryland Center for History and Culture.
