NDMU Community Gathers for Gator Fest 2024
NDMU community members came together on Doyle Lawn last Friday to celebrate Gator Fest 2024! Activities at this annual campus tradition, which is hosted by the Student Engagement Office, included a showcase of student-led organizations, a live DJ, a photo booth, lawn games, a festival food truck, tote bag decorating, and pumpkin carving. Maham Dasti is a member of the inaugural cohort of NDMU’s Physician Assistant Studies master’s program, which launched in fall 2023 and is set to see its first group of students begin clinical rotations this January.
Dasti was inspired to join the profession several years ago after observing the caring, personalized support that a family member received from PAs working in an Intensive Care Unit. After meeting with faculty members and seeing firsthand their passion for both the PA program and the profession as a whole, she knew that Notre Dame was where she wanted to continue her academic journey.

NDMU Hosts Turf Field Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony
NDMU hosted a Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony for its new turf field in the Knott Science and Innovation Center on Friday, Sept. 27! Our student-athletes were joined by school administrators and donors to celebrate a major component of the University’s recently concluded $52.6 million Go Beyond campaign.
NDMU President Marylou Yam, Board of Trustees Chair Patricia McLaughlin, SSND ’66, Director of Athletics and Wellness Dr. Ashley Wagner, and SSND Atlantic-Midwest Provincial Leader Sister Charmaine Krohe all gave remarks at the event.

Notre Dame's WLIB Holds First Gators Connect Speed Mentoring Session
Our Women’s Leadership Institute of Baltimore hosted its first Gators Connect Speed Mentoring Session on Thursday, Sept. 26! First-year students in attendance were paired with several upper-class students for eight minutes at a time, giving them the opportunity to ask questions, learn how to navigate their collegiate experience, and form new relationships.
The next Gators Connect Speed Mentoring date is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19. Flyers with sign-up information for that session will be posted around campus later this month!

School of Pharmacy, PA Students Host Healthcare Events on Campus
NDMU's School of Pharmacy hosted its first of three Immunization Clinics in October last Tuesday in Doyle Formal. Held in collaboration with Safeway Pharmacy, the clinics offer vaccinations for the flu, COVID-19, and more. Timeslots are still available for those wishing to sign up for the next two clinics on October 10 in Doyle Formal and October 17 in Knott 136.
Students in the Physician Assistant Studies program partnered with the American Red Cross to host a Blood Drive in Doyle Formal last Friday. All donors received an American Red Cross t-shirt and a Amazon e-Gift Card.

Student Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Campus Photoshoot
Notre Dame’s Marketing Department is holding a photoshoot on campus on Monday, Oct. 15 and Tuesday, Oct. 16, to capture the energy of NDMU students. These images will be used in marketing, news, and social media. The Marketing Department is searching for student volunteers to participate in the photoshoot – all students are eligible and encouraged to sign up!
Your participation will help share what life is like at NDMU for prospective students. For the photoshoot, please wear any available NDMU gear that you have. If wearing non-NDMU gear, please avoid clothes that have any recognizable logos or images.
A calendar invitation with the confirmed time and location will be sent to participating students on Thursday, Oct. 10.

NDMU Hosts Five Voter Registration Events
NDMU’s Office of Service & Community Engagement, in collaboration with students in Dr. Anne Henderson’s Civic Rights class, hosted five voter registration events across campus over the last week. Tables were set up in the Doyle, Knott, and UAB lobbies, and in the basement of Caroline Hall across from the mail room.
Renaissance Institute Attends Alumni Weekend
Members and staff from the Renaissance Institute engaged with attendees of Alumni Weekend 2024 in Doyle Formal. Alumni of every age group stopped by to enjoy chocolate, receive a copy of Reflections art and literary magazine, and learn more about Renaissance Institute programming.
One younger alum loved the idea of having her parent join RI, providing an opportunity to take classes on the campus of her alma mater. The Renaissance Institute hopes to continue to engage with the alumni community in the future to promote lifelong learning for all.

Occupational Therapy Doctorate
Members of NDMU's Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) attended the 16th annual Marian House 5K on Saturday, Sept. 28. Students volunteered as course marshals at the race, supporting the runners while enjoying a great day of service!
Ten Occupational Therapy Doctorate students (including class president Brooke Boyland, second from left in the first row of the picture above) traveled to Washington, D.C. for the American Occupational Therapy Association's annual Hill Day. The day of advocacy included opportunities to speak with members of Congress while meeting other occupational therapy students and practitioners.
School of Education
Dr. Ryan Schaaf, associate professor of Educational Technology in the School of Education, presented at the Navigating AI Together virtual conference hosted by Edumatch and the Maryland Society of Educational Technology. He presented "Reimagining Learning for the Always-On Generation" and "Learning in the Year 2040" to conference participants.
School of Nursing
School of Nursing faculty and staff members attended the Maryland Nurses Association's 121st annual convention, which was held in Annapolis from September 26-27. Kasey Mundell, Clinical Lab Instructor for the Hybrid ABSN program, provided a podium presentation entitled Implementing the Clinical Judgment Model Through Interactive Simulation in First Semester Skills Labs. Dr. Kathryn Handy, associate dean, and Dr. Deborah Naccarini, director of nursing services at Elkridge, presented a poster on the Student Success Boot Camp initiated by the entry-level faculty and staff this past summer titled Aspire, Achieve, Excel: Empowering Student Nurse Success.
