Transformative Leader Named New NDMU Provost
A transformative higher education leader with a commitment to liberal arts education and innovative lifelong learning was named the new provost and vice president for academic affairs at Notre Dame of Maryland University following a national search. Dr. Martha Walker will join the University on July 1, 2022, leading NDMU’s dynamic academic enterprise with key roles to include program development, promotion of faculty scholarship, student retention, accreditation maintenance, and outcome assessment. NDMU's 2022 Commencement ceremony was held downtown at the Baltimore Convention Center on Sunday, May 22. Large collections of photos from commencement, the Class of 2022 brunch and tower shoot at Caroline Hall, the School of Nursing's pinning ceremony and more are available to view and download on NDMU's Flickr page. Several Class of 2022 spotlights highlighting graduates from a variety of programs across campus were also posted to the NDMU website in the week leading up to commencement.

School of Pharmacy Dean Named Healthcare Hero by The Daily Record
The dean of the School of Pharmacy at Notre Dame was selected as a 2022 COVID-19 Hero in the Health Care Heroes awards by The Daily Record, Maryland’s source for business and legal news. Dr. Anne Lin received honors for her leadership on several NDMU initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect and educate the campus community and residents of the greater Baltimore region.

School of Education Faculty, Student Receive State and International Recognition
A pair of NDMU School of Education representatives were recently honored by state and international organizations for their work in the classroom. Adjunct faculty member Stephanie Hastings was recognized as the Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year by the Maryland Council for Social Studies, while Kelli Hickey D’23 was the recipient of the Mildred Murray Memorial Recruitment Grant from the Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honor society for women educators.

Several Renaissance Institute Members Recognized at Spring Luncheon
The Renaissance Institute honored several outstanding members and held a funny hat contest at its annual end-of-semester spring luncheon. The Father Joseph Connolly Award for leadership, outstanding and long service, generosity of spirit, and active participation was presented to Curriculum Committee Co–chair, Hollis Jackson. Judith Page Campbell, who serves on several institute committees, received the Joseph and Adele-Ethel Reidy “Unsung Hero” Award for working tirelessly behind the scenes to support the programs and activities of Renaissance.
The Director’s Award for extraordinary support of the Renaissance Institute, its staff and members went to Ken Pfeifer, former president and current chair of the Finance Committee. Attendees voted Joyce “Red Hot Chili Pepper” Dennison winner of the Mad Hatter competition. Each award winner receives a one-year Renaissance Institute membership in gratitude for their contributions.
Freeman M'08 Honored as Baltimore County's 2022-23 Teacher of the Year
Alicia Amaral Freeman, a 2008 graduate of NDMU’s Master of Arts in TESOL program, was announced as the 2022-23 Teacher of the Year for Baltimore County. Freeman was selected as the winner from a group of six finalists which also included NDMU alumna Tracey Dowling ’05 M’08. There were 159 initial Teacher of the Year nominees for the county, which has over 9,000 educators and is among the nation’s largest school systems.
