NDMU, Mount St. Mary’s Partner to Address Nursing Shortage with Collaborative Degree Program
Notre Dame of Maryland University and Mount St. Mary’s University are partnering to address the critical nursing shortage in the state and nationwide by making it easier for students at the Mount to enroll in NDMU’s fast-track Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
NDMU President Marylou Yam and President Timothy Trainor from Mount St. Mary’s participated in a ceremonial signing of the joint agreement Tuesday, April 25 at 10 a.m. on the NDMU campus in the University Academic Building’s Center for Caring with Technology. The new partnership between the two universities enables Mount St. Mary’s students in the Bachelor of Science in Health Science, pre-nursing track, to enroll in Notre Dame’s accelerated, second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) once they graduate.
NDMU Community Dedicates Tree in Memory of Dr. Paul Weldon
NDMU community members gathered on Tuesday to dedicate a tree in memory of Dr. Paul Weldon, a distinguished faculty member in the Biology department for over 25 years who passed away suddenly in December.
Those in attendance placed rocks, which were decorated at a celebration of life for Dr. Weldon earlier this semester, around the tree along with a plaque made in his honor. The tree was planted this past weekend by members of NDMU’s Chapter of the TriBeta Biological Honor Society.
Athletics and Student Life Celebrate Division III Week on Doyle Lawn
Thanks to all who gathered outside of Doyle Hall on April 14, as the Athletics and Student Life departments hosted a party to celebrate our student-athletes during Division III Week! Held annually in April, Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on campuses and surrounding communities.
LND Library Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary, Invites Students to Apply for Summer Assistant Positions
The Loyola Notre Dame Library staff opened wonderful physical and online exhibits and hosted a party to celebrate 50 years of service and partnership with Notre Dame of Maryland University and Loyola University Maryland. The spectacular keynote address, visualizing community as the library by poet and author Lia Purpura, is featured in the library newsletter.
The library also has three openings for student assistant positions this summer. Students would be expected to work 20-24 hours per week, provide excellent customer service to library patrons, and assist various library units with projects and tasks. All current students, including May 2023 graduates, are invited to apply here.
New College Nurse Office Hours, Survey Request for Students
NDMU's new College Nurse, Emilie Casselle, invites students to complete an anonymous survey detailing their wish list for the nurse's office. The survey, which takes only a few minutes to complete, is available here. Casselle's office hours through May 31 are 1 to 6 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and 8 am to 12 pm on Wednesday. She is located in the basement of Meletia Hall in Feeley International Center (FIC) 013-014, and her email is ecasselle@ndm.edu.

School of Education
Dr. Molly Dunn, assistant professor in the SOE, represented NDMU at the Fulbright Prize for International Understanding. Established in 1993, the Prize recognizes outstanding contributions toward bringing peoples, cultures, and nations together and breaking through the barriers that divide humankind. This year's award recipients were Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett for their unparalleled expertise in the coronavirus response and vaccine development, respectively.
Congratulations to the SOE's Professional Development School (PDS) partner, Brian Powell, who was recently named Baltimore County Public School's Principal of the Year! Powell serves as the principal of Kenwood High School, Notre Dame's longest-standing PDS partnership. He has been a huge supporter of the partnership, facilitating mentor matches for the SOE's student teacher interns and hiring many of the SOE's teacher graduates. The support of Powell and other principals from partnering schools were a key contributor to NDMU's PDS program receiving the 2022 Exemplary Professional Development School Achievement Award.
School of Pharmacy
The School of Pharmacy held its annual Cultural Show in LeClerc last Friday night! Hosted by NDMU's APhA-ASP and SSHP chapters, the evening included food celebrating the many cultures represented in the SOP, performances, and a fashion/talent show.
The Faculty Research Award Committee is pleased to announce that the winner of NDMU’s inaugural Faculty Research Award is Heather Folz, PharmD, BCACP. Heather is an Associate Professor of Clinical & Administrative Sciences in the School of Pharmacy. The Faculty Research Award celebrates exceptional accomplishments in research for faculty members at NDMU. There will be a reception for the award on Thursday May 4 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Doyle Formal. All community members are invited to attend.
