Community Day 2020
NDMU is celebrating its first virtual Baldwin Community Day on October 20, 2020, by honoring the year of the woman and 100 years of women winning the right to vote.
The guest speaker this year is Dr. Kimberly S. Adams, a professor of political science and owner of Adams Political Research and Consulting. Dr. Adams received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Political Science at the University of Southern Mississippi and her Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Mississippi.
Classes for students will end at 10:40 am and virtual workshops will take place from 1:00-2:45 pm. Honors Convocation will proceed later from 3:30-4:45 pm.
Students are encouraged to attend and learn how women have made strides in modern history and continue to change the world.

Alice Walker Q&A
On November 12, NDMU welcomes Alice Walker, an internationally celebrated writer, poet and activist, virtually to campus. The Pulitzer Prize winner joins NDMU as part of the Eichner Women Writer Series and the webinar will be presented over zoom. Alice Walker’s work has been translated into more than two dozen languages, and her books have sold more than fifteen million copies. Her upcoming nonfiction work, Gathering Blossoms Under Fire: The Journals of Alice Walker, will be a book of lasting significance—tracing her development as an artist, human rights activist and intellectual.
Virtual Tour
Now, NDMU’s prospective students and their families can tour campus from the comfort of their homes. The new virtual tour, shares the history of our beautiful campus, academic buildings, and residence halls. Three student tour guides share their experiences here on campus and what makes campus so special. Beyond the virtual tour, Admissions is now offering private, guided campus tours and virtual information sessions.
NDMU President Yam Signs Joint Statement on the Passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
The undergraduate Coalition issued the following joint statement on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
“Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died of metastatic cancer on September 18, 2020, was a leader whose words and actions changed the lives of women across generations. She changed our lives – and the lives of our alumnae, our students and our colleagues.”

This October, vote for your favorite scary books! Please vote for your choice of the winning book to be entered to win a prize! Starting Friday, October 19th, keep an eye on the Loyola Notre Dame Library Instagram story (@LNDLibrary) to vote in tournament games.

Athletics
NDMU Athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is keeping their student-athletes engaged throughout the semester offering various virtual programming including workouts, paint night, trivia night, and social events. Soon the department will be offering leadership training sessions for student-athletes that will go towards the leadership badge for the IMPRINT program.
The Colonial States Athletics Conference is keeping busy this fall despite no competition. This month, the CSAC offered a fireside chat with the cross country coaching staff from around the league. NDMU’s head coach in his first season, John Caslin, participated in the call and spoke about his experiences as a cross country coach for the past 37 years.
Auxiliary & Conference Services
Lifeguards Needed
The Office of Auxiliary Services is looking for experienced lifeguards and swim instructors for the new Gator Swim School coming in early 2021. We will be offering weekend swim lessons to kiddos of all levels. If you have a high schooler or college student taking classes online and want to earn some extra cash on the weekends, this could be the job for them! Please apply online through the NDMU Careers website, and look for the Swim Program Instructor and Swim Program Lifeguard positions. All lifeguards must provide valid certification.

Doyle Dining
We’re excited to offer service again for faculty, staff and commuter students! NDMU community members will have a similar experience as our residential students and will be guided through the updated layout to get to-go meals in the Dining Hall.
Please take note of the following changes:
- Faculty, staff & commuter students must purchase their meal “swipe” 30 minutes prior to the start of meal service using our online purchasing platform, which accepts debit, credit or e-check.
- We will NOT be accepting cash or credit at the entrance of the dining hall
- The SAGE team will have a list of all who purchased online swipes and will check your ID card against that list
Faculty, staff and commuter students who cannot make designated meal service hours, can order a pre-prepared to-go option.
Residential students who cannot make designated meal service hours can order a pre-prepared to-go option.
Career Center
There were 430 participating students from six local, private colleges and almost 80 employers and other organizations involved in the recent, October 1 Career, Internship, and Grad School Fair. Handshake’s virtual platform made it possible. On a more regular basis, students can use the Events page on Handshake which lists hundreds of employers hosting virtual treks. Students targeting any type of organization (county school systems, government agencies, non-profits and, of course, corporations) can easily build face time with employers by attending these sessions.
English Language Institute
Sarah Griffith, an ELI instructor, is a presenter in a panel discussion in a virtual conference on October 23 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Tech with a Purpose: Fostering Virtual Student-Centered Classes presentation: Since lockdown, online teaching has become the norm. Whether synchronous or asynchronous, it is a challenge to make our online classes interactive, affectively and cognitively engaging, with language-rich, student-centered activities that challenge and motivate our learners.

Sister Circle Support Group
Every Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., students are welcome to join Finding Our Voice: Sister Circle Support Group. Pre-registration is required to join each session. Contact Pamela Blackwell or Elaine Dearing to register.
Registration Dates
Registration for Winterim and Spring 2021 begins Monday, October 19, 2020. The Schedule of Courses is now available on WebAdvisor. Students are encouraged to register for classes using WebAdvisor.
