Biography
Dr. Lauren McHugh serves as an Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor in the School of Education at Notre Dame of Maryland University, where she advises graduate students pursuing initial teacher certification and teaches literacy courses. Prior to joining higher education full-time, she spent 30 years in public education, including 22 years as a Reading Specialist with Harford County Public Schools. Since 2009, she has also served as adjunct and associate faculty, here at NDMU. Her work focuses on supporting preservice teachers, international students, and literacy educators through explicit, research-based instructional practices. Her research focuses on early literacy instruction, the use of digital text in elementary classrooms, teacher and student interaction during literacy instruction, evidence-based reading instruction, and teacher preparation.
