Biography

Dr. Kyung Park is an Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Notre Dame of Maryland University, where she teaches courses in computer information systems, data science, programming, systems analysis and design, and emerging computing technologies. Her teaching emphasizes the integration of theoretical foundations with hands-on applications, preparing students to apply computational and analytical approaches to real-world problems.

Her research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and data science, with interests in transformer-based models, large language models, topic modeling, and AI-supported education. Her interdisciplinary research applies computational methods to analyze complex digital and social data and explores the role of emerging technologies in education and society. Her recent work includes applications of NLP and AI to sustainability education, digital media, and online content analysis. She is also interested in advancing computing education through the integration of emerging AI and computing technologies into the curriculum. In addition, she advises undergraduate students conducting research projects in areas such as data analytics, edge computing, and robotics, providing opportunities for students to apply computational concepts and emerging technologies to hands-on research.

  • Research on RFID/USN platform and its context-aware applications. Created collaboration framework with the XOntology based on the CAI (Context-Aware Inference) semantic behavior analysis model for smart environment and simulated the collaboration effect of the framework.

Interests

  • AI, Data Analytics, and Smart IoT Systems
  • Developing data analytics, machine learning, real-time streaming, GIS, and cybersecurity frameworks for IoT and smart environments, with applications in anomaly detection, smart grids, business, and large-scale event analysis.
  • Human-Assisting Technologies, Robotics, and Educational/Training Systems
  • Applying AI, computer vision, brain-computer interfaces, motion and behavior recognition, and robotics to develop human-assisting and training systems. Applications include educational games, exergames, support for older adults and learners with disabilities, and human-assistant robots.
  • NLP, Sentiment Analysis, and Topic Modeling
  • Applying transformer-based NLP models, sentiment analysis, and topic modeling to large-scale digital and social media data to investigate how individuals and communities construct emotional, social, and cultural meanings around emerging products, technologies, and societal issues. Current research examines public perceptions of sports betting advertisements, consumer representations of plant-based and cultivated meat, and sustainability education through post-apocalyptic video games, including a BERTopic-based comparative analysis of Metro 2033 and Rage. These studies explore themes of risk, ethics, cultural meaning, persuasive communication, and sustainability through computational analysis of user-generated content.
