NDMU hosted its annual Nancy Kreiter Research Day in the Knott Science and Innovation Center on Friday, April 26! A total of 62 students shared research on a variety of topics through poster and traditional presentation formats. School of Pharmacy graduate and current adjunct faculty member Dr. Mayrim Millan-Barea D'18 served as the event's opening speaker.
A presentation by pharmacy students Kunjrani Pani, Jagpreet Singh, Ashley Rogers, and Jessica Rubelmann earned the grand prize for top overall poster, while Angelina Moree and Tiara Aragon shared the grand prize for top traditional presentation.
An assistant professor in NDMU’s School of Education was recently celebrated as the second recipient of the University’s Fenster Faculty Research Award.
Dr. Kristine Larson received the award during an afternoon reception in Doyle Formal. The event included a presentation from Dr. Larson, where she highlighted her research on the benefits of supporting and promoting human flourishing in the classroom for both students and educators, and emphasized the importance of collaboration when conducting research.
NDMU’s Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) Delta Beta Chapter was recently honored nationally as the PLS Division I Chapter of the Year!
Phi Lambda Sigma, also known as the national Pharmacy Leadership Society, has a total of 138 chapters in universities located across the United States, British Columbia, and Puerto Rico. NDMU's chapter was selected as Chapter of the Year for the first time in the organization’s young history.
Three leaders with a wealth of experience in women’s empowerment and gender equity programming have joined the Women’s Leadership Institute of Baltimore, NDMU’s distinct initiative to promote women’s advancement.
Damita McDonald, Dr. Jeannine Heynes, and Maricka Oglesby will lead WLIB, which recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding women in the Baltimore region and beyond, offers leadership development programming, and convenes discussions on issues of gender equality.
Student recruitment materials produced by NDMU's Marketing Department earned the highest-possible Gold award designation in a global competition celebrating excellence in educational advertising!
NDMU’s Total Recruitment Package and Student Viewbook submissions were each recognized in a contest which included over 2,000 entries from schools in all 50 states and several foreign countries.
Two students in NDMU's Occupational Therapy Doctorate program earned Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification at the conclusion of their Business Planning and Business Development in Occupational Therapy course. Kristina Boykin D'25 and Cortney Elick D'25 received their certificates after completing their final business presentation on Tuesday morning.
The Six Sigma Methodology is a set of business tools, statistical theory, and quality control knowledge that helps individuals improve their business procedures. Sylvia Palm, a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, presented the students with their certificates on Tuesday. Palm, a professional licensure coordinator in NDMU's Academic Affairs Department, co-taught the course with OTD Program Director Dr. Ivelisse Lazzarini.
The English Department hosted its annual English Tea, Sigma Tau Delta Induction Ceremony, and Damozel launch on April 25. The induction ceremony was hosted by the Alpha Alpha Chapter officers: President April Boss and Vice President Cassandra Thompson. Three students were inducted into Sigma Tau, the International English Honor Society: Kristine George, Hailey Guerrier, and Angelina Moree.
The Damozel launch was hosted by editor April Boss. This special 100th anniversary issue of our campus literary magazine includes literary and artwork not only from the 2023-2024 school year, but also from previous editions in decades past. The Baltimore area’s premier lifelong learning program resides on NDMU's campus in the Feeley International Center at Meletia Hall. Faculty, staff, alums and their families and friends age 50 and older are cordially invited to join the Renaissance Institute, a cohort of active and engaged adults with a passion for learning and fun.
Members may select six-week noncredit classes from our varied catalog of offerings. You also can share your acquired knowledge by teaching courses on subjects you are passionate about. Course topics include literature, public affairs, philosophy, history, Baltimore and Maryland topics, music, art, languages, qi gong, film, science, computers, yoga, acting, and more. Members additionally will find a wide array of cultural, social and physical activities in our popular Summer and Winter in the City Programs.

Graduate students and faculty from the School of Education attended the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association in Philadelphia from April 11-14. Students' and faculty's research was featured in the program, including studies by Maryellen Morrisey D'24 (The Strong, Latent Science Identity Trajectories of Women and Underrepresented Minority Students) and Dr. Brynne Baruch D'23 (The Impact of Remote Learning on the English Acquisition of Delaware K–12 Multilingual Learners).

Congratulations to Ashley Demski '10, M'16, a current adjunct faculty member in the School of Education, on her selection as a semifinalist for Baltimore City Public Schools' Teacher of the Year award!
Demski works as a kindergarten teacher at Francis Scott Key Elementary/Middle School, and she teaches Science/Social Studies Methods, Early Childhood Methods, and STEM for Early Childhood Educators at NDMU. She was additionally a 2024 Teacher Accomplishment in Gifted & Talented Education recipient from the Maryland State Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education.
NDMU's School of Pharmacy partnered with the Baltimore County Department of Aging to host a Health Fair in Perry Hall on April 23! Thirty-four fourth-year student pharmacists, precepted by Dr. Nicole Culhane and Professor Sherry Moore, provided health education and interactive games to over 40 seniors on topics such as fall risk prevention, adult immunizations, mental health and wellness, and diabetes management.
Individuals from Seven Oaks Senior Center as well as some surrounding centers attended the fair. Six gift baskets were raffled every 30 minutes, and those lucky individuals left the health fair not only a little more knowledgeable, but with a fun prize as well. Thank you to the staff and patrons of Seven Oaks Senior Center and BCDA for their graciousness and collaboration.
