Welcome back to all of our undergraduate students, who arrived on campus for New and Returning Student Move-In Days last Friday and Saturday! They joined Notre Dame's fall student-athletes, who began their preseason practices in mid-August.
The Class of 2028 was then introduced to both NDMU and their new classmates with several activities across Orientation Weekend, including a Playfair icebreaker in MBK, an introduction to the Loyola Notre Dame Library, and an all-class cookout on Doyle Lawn.

NDMU was recently awarded a $225,000 state grant to support the installation of new closed-circuit television camera units in strategic locations on campus, as well as additional door access control units for buildings and other enhanced security technology.
The new CCTV cameras will enhance security coverage all around campus, supporting an extensive network of cameras and blue light emergency phones already in place. Notre Dame is ranked #2 among Maryland colleges and universities on Niche’s latest list of Safest College Campuses in the state.
The School of Pharmacy officially kicked off the 2024-25 academic year on August 12, when first-year students began classes after completing their on-campus orientation the previous week. New students for the Occupational Therapy Doctorate and Physician Assistant Studies programs then arrived at NDMU for their orientations later in the month.
Each of those two cohorts were the largest in the history of the OTD and PA programs, which launched in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Welcome to all of our new graduate students!
The August 2024 graduates of our School of Nursing’s 15-month Accelerated 2nd Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and Hybrid Accelerated 2nd Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (HABSN) programs were celebrated during a pinning ceremony in LeClerc Theatre on August 16! Congratulations to all of these students as they prepare to join the nursing profession.
James Keaton has spent his entire adult life serving as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy, first as an active-duty member and presently in the Navy Reserve. As he prepares to retire from that role next year, Keaton will soon begin his new career as a psychiatric nurse after graduating from NDMU’s Hybrid ABSN program.
Keaton was drawn to the nursing profession after working with his colleagues in the Navy on a mental health initiative supporting active duty sailors during the height of the pandemic in 2021.
Students in NDMU’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate program earned Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification as part of a spring semester course! The class taught key insights on the tools and techniques needed to start and maintain a successful small business, giving our students an advantage over others who are training to become occupational therapists.
Fall semester classes start September 10 at Baltimore’s premier lifelong learning program, the Renaissance Institute at NDMU! This semester’s sessions include a wide range of topics, including art history, ballet, creative writing, film, literature, Maryland history, medicine, music, painting, yoga, and more.
The classes, open to faculty, staff, alums, and local community members aged 50 and older, are offered in person, online, or hybrid and they run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks at a time. For more information, please visit the team in Room 016 of the Feeley International Center at Meletia Hall, or register on the Renaissance Institute website.
The Office of Accessibility and Student Inclusion has relocated to a new, more accessible office. Our new location is in Theresa Hall, lower level, room 023, right next to the Student Success Center and the Accessibility Testing Center.
This move brings several benefits, enhancing our visibility and ease of access for all students:
Dr. Ariel Ludwig, assistant professor in the Criminology/Sociology Department, is featured in Carceral Worlds, a new book published by Bloomsbury Publishing this summer. Her chapter is titled "Digital carceral bodies and abolitionist dreams: Ethnographic poetry and the electronic record systems in the New York City jails."
Dr. Jane Balkam, professor in the School of Nursing, spoke on the topic “Galactagogues and Lactation: Considerations for Counseling Breastfeeding Mothers” at the 2024 Kaiser Permanente Southern California/Hawaii Breastfeeding Virtual Symposium on August 7, 2024.
Welcome back! Check out LNDL's new search tool, OneSearch
The Loyola Notre Dame Library is thrilled to be starting the fall semester with our new and improved search tool, OneSearch! Users can access OneSearch on the Library’s homepage and enjoy streamlined search functions, access to local resources, and scholarly research support. Additional features allow the Notre Dame and Loyola communities to easily manage Library loans, requests, and citations.
