Faculty from the School of Nursing traveled to Thailand this summer to establish a long-term partnership to promote collaborative learning and research between Notre Dame of Maryland University and the Praboromarajchanok Institute (PBRI), which includes 30 nursing colleges across the Southeast Asian nation. The partnership between NDMU and PBRI will promote scholarly collaboration, faculty exchanges, and other future initiatives between the two institutions.
Key components of the mission and vision for NDMU’s School of Pharmacy include an emphasis on compassion, caring for diverse populations, and a dedication to transform societal health. All three of these ideals are featured as part of NDMU’s unique AdvoCaring program, which provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop their clinical skills while serving community members at a variety of local organizations.
The initiative, which has been built into the curriculum since the School of Pharmacy was established in 2008, matches students with one of eight current AdvoCaring partnership sites throughout their four years on campus. NDMU’s partner organizations assist a variety of underserved populations, including the elderly, low-income groups, those with a history of substance abuse, and people experiencing housing/food insecurity or unemployment.
Jessica Brockmeyer ’03, M’15 was first hired by the United States Army as an entry-level chemist after completing her undergraduate studies at NDMU, and her career has been on a consistent upward trajectory ever since.
Brockmeyer now serves as Chief of Staff at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, where she is the only female member of the leadership team at the largest military test range in the country. After earning her undergraduate degree in chemistry, Brockmeyer added a master’s in Management and Leadership from NDMU in 2015, which she credits as playing a key role in her steady rise up the U.S. Army’s leadership ranks.
A rare internship opportunity is providing one NDMU pharmacy student with invaluable experience working for an organization dedicated to improving the availability of high-quality healthcare across the world.
Funmi Olateru-Olagbegi D’26 was one of 20 students across the country, and the only pharmacy student, selected for a summer internship supporting the United States Pharmacopeia’s Promoting the Quality of Medicines Plus (PQM+) Program. The initiative, which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, works to improve systems that assure the quality of essential medical products in low- and middle-income countries.

On September 19, NDMU welcomes Jason Steidl Jack to campus to share his LGBTQ+ work in the Catholic Church.
