NDMU Welcomes Class of 2027 for New Gator Registration Days
Members of Notre Dame of Maryland University's incoming Class of 2027 visited campus in June for three New Gator Registration Days, where they had the opportunity to meet their academic advisor, build their class schedule, and explore campus with their future classmates. We are thrilled to welcome our first-year students to the NDMU community, and we look forward to seeing all of our Gators back on campus in August!
NDMU Faculty Member, Students Recognized at Maryland Pharmacists Association Convention
Four representatives from NDMU’s School of Pharmacy received Excellence in Pharmacy Awards at the 141st Maryland Pharmacists Association (MPhA) Annual Convention in June.
Dr. Ashley Moody, associate professor of clinical & administrative sciences, earned the organization’s Mentor Award in recognition of her excellence supporting students, fellow pharmacists and other members of the profession across the state. Dr. Kayla Marcucci D’23 was one of three Outstanding Student Pharmacist Award honorees, while Kunjrani Pani D’25 and Jahanvi Patel D’25 were both announced as scholarship recipients.
NDMU’s Award-Winning PDS Program Wraps Up Successful 2022-23 Academic Year
NDMU’s teacher preparation program, which has been recognized as one of the top development programs in the country, continued to provide countless academic and professional growth opportunities for both NDMU students and participating local schools during the 2022-23 academic year.
The School of Education’s Professional Development Schools (PDS) Partnership Network formally partnered with 14 public schools across five different school systems in 2022-23 to develop teacher interns, engage in reciprocal professional development, and support school progress goals.

After Completing Own Education Journey, NDMU Grad Builds School to Support Children Back Home in West Africa
Nafissatou “Nafi” Diene ’23 recently completed a major personal milestone, earning a college degree from NDMU’s School of Education after immigrating to the United States as a non-English speaker 26 years ago. She accomplished that feat while dedicating an equal amount of effort towards building a school, which completed its first year in operation last month, in the West African nation of Senegal where she grew up.
Member of School of Pharmacy’s Inaugural Class Reflects on Professional Journey
Dr. Nephthalee Edmond Tefera D’13 took a leap of faith when she enrolled as a student in the inaugural Class of 2013 for NDMU’s Pharm.D. program.
That decision would pay off for her and many of her other classmates who are now excelling in the profession. Dr. Tefera currently serves as MedStar Montgomery Medical Center’s pharmacy operations supervisor, earning a promotion to that leadership position in November 2018. She is also a current board member of the Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacy, and she serves as a preceptor for several schools in the area, including NDMU.

Student/Faculty/Staff Updates
Occupational Therapy Doctorate
Students in NDMU's Occupational Therapy Doctorate program recently completed an adaptive design project in UAB, using low-cost cardboard material to create safe, strong, and sustainable devices for use by individuals with disabilities. Our OTD students built iPad/tablet stands, wedges for individuals who need to be angled for positioning, and a K-bar table for children. The hands-on experience will help them better serve clients during their clinical fieldwork.
School of Arts, Sciences & Business
Dr. Yasmine Awais, associate professor in NDMU's art therapy department, presented the keynote address at the Institute For Therapy Through the Arts’ 7th annual integrated creative arts therapy conference on June 9, 2023. Her address, Disrupting Systems, Actualizing Change (It’s Impossible to Do This Work if You Don’t Think Change is Possible), was part of a two-day conference where art, dance/movement, drama, and music therapists presented clinical material, innovative research, and provided skill-building workshops to creative arts therapists, counselors, educators, and other allied professionals. Dr. Awais is pictured above with Akash Bhatia, an organizer of the conference and one of her former students.

School of Nursing
The Center for Caring with Technology hosted students from the Caroline Center for an IEP Simulation and Skills day last week. The Caroline Center is a nonprofit workforce development organization serving women in Baltimore. The Center aims to provide a safe and supportive community and an enriched curriculum that supports students’ transition to a professional career as certified nursing assistants, gerontology nursing assistants or pharmacy technicians. Students receive an empowering education and effective career skills training program – all inspired by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

The School of Pharmacy's rising fourth-year students were recently recognized at a pinning ceremony as they prepare to transition out of the classroom and into their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences this fall! Congratulations and good luck to the whole group as they begin their professional rotations.
