Dr. Nicole Dular, assistant professor in NDMU's Philosophy Department, will be presenting original research at the Central Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association this Thursday. Her paper, “Moral Distortions,” was selected by blind peer review for a symposium session. The selection process is competitive, with an acceptance rate of less than 15 percent.
An additional paper by Dr. Dular, co-authored with Madeline Ward and titled "The Harms of the Internalized Oppression Worry," has also been accepted for publication at the Journal of Social Philosophy.
NDMU students enrolled in a General Microbiology lab class taught by Dr. David Wade have discovered paramecium in the stream that runs alongside the Loyola Notre Dame Library. The first lab of the semester in General Microbiology included a microscopic examination of pond water. A sample of that water was acquired and examined microscopically, using the hanging drop technique. Almost immediately, a couple of paramecium could be seen feeding on algae.
Paramecium - single celled, motile (via cilia) microbes - have been known since the late 1600s, and are widespread in water environments. According to Dr. Wade, it is probably a good sign that the stream contains viable paramecia, as there are numerous scientific reports about various environmental toxins that can harm them.
Dr. Matthew Shimoda, Dr. Sharon Park, Dr. James Culhane, Dr. Jennifer Bailey, and Dr. Asish Dutta traveled to Phoenix, Arizona for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Interim Meeting, which was held from February 10-12. Attendees gained new ideas and fresh perspectives to help them develop solutions to address their most pressing problems.
