NDMU Community Gathers in Doyle for Annual Christmas Dinner

NDMU students, faculty, and staff members gathered in Doyle Hall on Friday, December 1 for the University's annual Christmas Dinner! Activities included decorating the dining hall's Christmas tree with ornaments designed by clubs and departments across campus, a communal dinner served by faculty and staff, and the lighting of Caroline Hall’s Merrick Tower.

NDMU Graduate Programs Recognized Nationally for Excellence and Value

NDMU's graduate nursing and education programs were featured among the nation’s best in Money.com’s inaugural Best Graduate School Program rankings!

Notre Dame was the only Maryland university to be included in the Best Nursing Master’s Programs for Your Money rankings, and NDMU's education master's programs were one of only 21 across the United States to receive a grade of 4.5 stars or higher on Money's 5-star grading scale.

First-Year Students Celebrate First 100 Days

First-year students gathered in Doyle Hall last Wednesday to celebrate the completion of their first 100 days at NDMU. The evening began with free food and drinks in Doyle Formal before moving downstairs for a variety of games and raffle prizes in Gator Alley.

Notre Dame Announces Participation in Maryland’s Groundbreaking Service Program

NDMU's Maryland Corps Service Members

NDMU has joined a statewide effort to expand service and volunteerism as a host site for two members of the inaugural Maryland Corps, a first-of-its-kind service pathway for people of all ages through the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation.

Agyasi Downs and Kimberly Heywood will serve for nine months at Notre Dame supporting the University’s signature outreach initiative, the York Road Education & Service (YES) program.

Thanks to all who attended Student Life's Cultural Day of Celebration in LeClerc Hall on Thursday, November 30! Individuals and student organizations represented their respective cultures through food, clothing, and other customs at information booths in LeClerc Lobby. A fashion show with the theme “What Empowers You” followed immediately afterwards in LeClerc Theatre.

Over $135K Raised for Notre Dame Fund on Giving Tuesday

School of Pharmacy

Marielie Carrasquillo Rivera and Edgardo Rodriguez

Fourth-year pharmacy students Marielie Carrasquillo Rivera and Edgardo Rodriguez traveled to California last week to represent Notre Dame at the 2023 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Meeting! While there, they presented research conducted earlier this year with Dr. Sharon Park, Professor and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Pharmacy.

Faculty members Dr. Ahmed Eid, Dr. Ghania Naeem, and Dr. Sheena Mathew also represented NDMU at the conference, which took place from December 3-7 in Anaheim.

PLS members volunteering downtown

Student leaders and Pharmacy Leadership Society members traveled to the Baltimore Convention Center on Wednesday, November 22 to help provide a Thanksgiving dinner to local community residents. They were part of a group of approximately 300 volunteers at Goodwill's 66th annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Resource Fair, which served over 2,000 Baltimore-area residents who have barriers to employment or other special needs.

NDMU Community Packs MBK for Basketball Home Openers
Women's and men's basketball student-athletes during their home openers

Notre Dame of Maryland University's women's and men's basketball teams both opened the home portion of their 2023-24 schedules in front of packed crowds at MBK Sports Complex! The women hosted Salisbury on November 8 to open up their home schedule, while the men faced St. Mary's (MD) on Monday for their first home game in program history.

There will be plenty of additional opportunities to support our Gators throughout the winter. Women's basketball defeated Cedar Crest by a 70-30 final in its United East opener last night, while the men are back at MBK next Wednesday, Dec. 6 to take on Wilson College.

Like Mother, Like Daughter: Legacy Family Bonds through Shared Notre Dame Experience

Maureen Ritcey DeGrange ‘99 has returned to NDMU several times since her graduation. Her trips back to campus this fall, however, have been extra special, as she has been able to spend time with her daughter during her first semester as the parent of a legacy student.

Kathryn DeGrange ’27 is one of 15 students in the Class of 2027 with a family member who had previously attended Notre Dame. Kathryn is enrolled in the School of Nursing’s Entry-Level BSN program, aiming to join her mother in the nursing profession, and she is also following in her mother’s footsteps as a multi-sport athlete at NDMU.

Representatives from The College Tour were on campus from November 6-10 to film an episode featuring NDMU which is set to air on Amazon Prime this spring!

The College Tour tells the story of colleges and universities around the world from the perspective of current students on campus. We can’t wait to see our students highlighted as they share their Notre Dame story with viewers from around the world.

New Health Sciences Degree Prepares NDMU Students for Variety of Healthcare Professions

The Knott Science and Innovation Center

NDMU has launched a new Bachelor of Science degree in health sciences to help meet the continuing demand for healthcare professionals across the United States.

The health sciences program, which debuted during the fall 2023 semester, is the latest innovative offering to position NDMU as a national leader in healthcare education.

Three NDMU Community Members Become SSND Associates

NDMU's new SSND Associates

Three members of the NDMU community are included among the newest Associates of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Associates make a covenant to live the spirit and mission of the SSNDs through deepening personal and communal prayer, participating in SSND spiritual, educational, and social activities, extending the spirit of SSND in her/his respective ministry/lifestyle, and sharing one’s gifts, faith, life, and lived experiences with SSNDs and other Associates.

New Associates include Sylvia Palm (licensure coordinator, Academic Affairs), Angela Snyder (associate professor, School of Education), and Lyndsay Wright '19, M'22 (assistant professor, School of Nursing). For further information about the Associate program, including how to become an Associate, community members are invited to visit the SSND's website.

Morrissy Honors Program

Morrissy Students in Chicago

Eight NDMU students and faculty members from the Morrissy Honors Program recently attended the 2023 National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Annual Conference, which was held in Chicago from November 8-12.

Anna Choudhary '25, Eliza Davis '25, and Nwanneka Udolisa '25 served as moderators at the conference, attending multiple presentations and facilitating discussions between audience members and the presenters. Jensen Armstrong '24, program director Dr. Evelyn Spratt, and Sister Therese Marie Dougherty, Ph.D. ’60 presented on a Heritage Tour that two honors students and two honors professors completed in 2022. That trip involved tracing the steps of the first SSNDs to arrive in America, and readings of their letters and journals during visits with current SSNDs in several cities around the region.

Averee Radonovich '24 presented her Morrissy Independent Study on Burnout in Critical Care Nurses in Maryland amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, while Julie Asbury '24 presented research on neurodegenerative diseases through her work at the Sun Lab at Johns Hopkins University as a member of the Sister Alma Science Year fellowship. Asbury discussed her research on how a protein, poly (GR), leads to neuronal loss and behavioral deficits in a mouse model for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Students in NDMU’s new physician assistant studies program collected food earlier this month which was donated to support Thanksgiving dinners for families at the Light House Homeless Prevention Support Center in Annapolis. Our students additionally wrote inspirational cards to accompany the meals.

At this event, individuals and/or student organizations can represent their respective cultures through food, clothing, and other customs they wish to showcase to the NDMU community. The celebration will allow you to table through information booths in LeClerc Lobby, and/or participate in the “What Empowers You” fashion show in LeClerc Theatre, where each culture can be represented by showing off their traditional attire.
