Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy Participate in Interprofessional Education Simulation
NDMU's School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy participated in an Interprofessional Education (IPE) simulation in the Center for Caring with Technology on Tuesday. Pharmacy and Nursing students were assigned to multidisciplinary teams and asked to care for “patients” in three different scenarios. The patient or system issues presented in each scenario affected both disciplines, requiring the students to work as a team to resolve.

Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame Exhibit Dedicated at Notre Dame
More than 20 women leaders came together on Monday to celebrate the opening of the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame exhibit in its new home at NDMU. Notre Dame President Marylou Yam led a ceremonial ribbon cutting with Judith Vaughan-Prather, executive director of the Maryland Commission for Women, and Diana Bailey, executive director of the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center, joining members of the women’s commission and the heritage center’s board of directors.
Located just off the lobby of the Knott Science and Innovation Center, the one-of-a-kind exhibit showcases plaques representing the more than 200 inductees to the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame.

Frank Olszewski Named United East Skye Division Co-Coach of the Year
The United East announced its 2023 men's soccer major award winners and all-conference teams on Wednesday, with five Gators earning recognition. NDMU head coach Frank Olszewski was named Co-Coach of the Year, Hector Alvarez, Tassilo Lehmkuhl and Victor Jaunay collected second team all-conference accolades, and Adrian Andersen was named third team all-conference.
Olszewski led the Gators to a historic first season which culminated in a United East playoff appearance. The team showed improvement throughout the fall, earning five victories (including three in conference play), and allowing just 22 goals on the year.

Renaissance Institute Featured on WMAR-TV
WMAR-TV aired a special entitled “The Power of Age” which featured NDMU's Renaissance Institute on October 25. A reporter and film crew visited the Sister Kathleen Feeley International Center earlier in the month. They filmed several classes in action, along with a rehearsal of the Renaissance Singers. They also interviewed past president John Meredith, Curriculum Co-Chair Terry Weisser, and Director Shirley Bigley Lamotte.
WMAR also aired an interview with Director Lamotte earlier that week on Midday Maryland, a program devoted to lifestyle issues and local resources benefitting Maryland citizens. The interview included a spirited discussion regarding Renaissance’s academic programs, its strong emphasis on community, and its Winter in the City and Summer in the City Programs, providing friendship and stimulation to the over-50 community all year long.

SASB's Haunted Humanities Halloween was a great success! The departments of English, history and political science, religious studies, communication arts, art, art therapy, and modern languages hosted trick-or-treating, costume competitions, and amulet making for students on Halloween this year.

- Four School of Education representatives presented recently at the History of Education Society's 2023 Annual Meeting, which was held in Atlanta from November 1-5. Dr. Evelyn Spratt (associate professor and director of the Morrissy Honors Program), Dr. Anne Solomon M'10, D'23 and current PhD student Michelle Feeney presented "Teachers as Advocates: The Social Entrepreneurship of Three Progressive Women Educators," with Dr. Erin Gouldin D'20 serving as panel chair.
- Dr. Stephanie Savick '92, M'99, D'09, associate professor in the SOE, represented Notre Dame on the conference planning committee for the 8th annual Maryland Cultural Proficiency Conference, which was held on October 17-18 at Morgan State University. This year’s conference theme was “Education as the Pulse of Freedom.” Highly engaging and interactive concurrent sessions were offered as well as a student panel discussion. Gina Davenport, a current doctoral student at Notre Dame, and Dr. Cara Jeanne M'13, D'21 each presented a concurrent session at the conference. Dr. Lisa Williams, associate professor in the SOE, was the recipient of The Dr. Warren C. Hayman Equity Leadership Award, honoring her commitment, dedication, sacrifice and vision to achieving educational equity.
There were approximately 430 people in attendance, 10 vendors, and a DJ to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop. Anyone interested in serving on the conference planning committee and engaging in this important work can reach out to Dr. Savick to become involved.
- The U.S. Department of State announced the selection of Margot Harris M'03 for an eight-week English Language Specialist project focusing on the Teaching of English for Security Purposes in Morocco at the Royal Gendarmerie. Harris' project is one of approximately 240 that the English Language Specialist Program supports each year. Harris is a graduate of Notre Dame's Leadership in Education/TESOL master's program. She is also a former adjunct professor and current TESOL intern supervisor for NDMU.
In this her third English Language Specialist assignment, Harris is asked to train a cadre of officers and non-commissioned officers to be designated as internal English language instructors for the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie in current TESOL Methods. The English Language Specialist Program is the premier opportunity for leaders in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages to enact meaningful and sustainable changes in the way that English is taught abroad

Nicey Olo ’22, a graduate of the School of Nursing's BSN program who is now working towards her master’s degree in nursing education, was featured on the front cover of Catholic Review’s November magazine! Nicey shares her experiences in a story highlighting nurses who use their faith to help them excel in a demanding profession.

Occupational Therapy Doctorate
Dr. Ivelisse Lazzarini, director of NDMU's Occupational Therapy Doctorate program, was selected as a presenter for the next Council for Higher Education Accreditation-CHEA International Quality Group (CHEA-CIQG) Annual Conference, which will be held from January 29 - February 1 in Washington, DC. She also published a chapter in a 2023 book titled "Quintessential Occupational Therapy."
