After Completing Own Education Journey, NDMU Grad Builds School to Support Children Back Home in West Africa


BALTIMORE – Nafissatou “Nafi” Diene ’23 recently completed a major personal milestone, earning a college degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University’s School of Education after immigrating to the United States as a non-English speaker 26 years ago. She accomplished that feat while dedicating an equal amount of effort towards building a school in the West African nation where she grew up.

Alumnae and Alumni Weekend will take place September 22 - 24, 2023. Registration opens on July 5 and closes on September 17 at midnight. Early Bird pricing will be in effect until August 20 at midnight.

Community Day is an NDMU tradition and an opportunity for our campus community to engage with our SSND heritage and charism.  The 2023 theme will be grounded in our University’s commitment to Laudato Si’. Our keynote address will be from 11am-12pm in LeClerc Theatre. Following the keynote, we invite all attendees to share in a community lunch in Doyle Dining. Afterwards, faculty, staff and students will join for facilitated workshops held throughout campus from 1pm-1:45pm and 2pm-2:45pm.

We invite all students interested in learning more about graduate studies in NDMU's Art Therapy program to visit us on-campus and have their questions answered about the program, the admissions process, the field of art therapy and practice in Maryland. Come gain first-hand knowledge of all our program has to offer.

 During the Art Therapy Summer Information Session you will:

  • Learn how NDMU art therapy graduate students are in training year-round in our intensive two- or three-year program.
  • Hear from current rising second year students and faculty who are happy to talk with you!
