NDMU Names New Vice President of Institutional Advancement and University Communications

NDMU named a seasoned fundraising leader as its next vice president of institutional advancement and university communications, effective September 1, 2023.
Dr. Carroll Galvin D’23, who has been a member of the NDMU community since February 2016, served as senior director of grants and advancement operations prior to becoming the interim vice president of institutional advancement and university communications in June. He will oversee several departments on campus, including Advancement, Alumnae and Alumni Engagement, Corporate, Foundation & Government Grants, University Communications, and the Women’s Leadership Institute of Baltimore.

NDMU Hosts Author Talk: LGBTQ Catholics- Redeeming A Complicated Tradition

Dr. Jason Steidl Jack, an author and assistant professor based in New York City, visited campus last week for a presentation on his LGBTQ+ work in the Catholic Church. Steidl Jack met in small groups with faculty members and students, and presented “LGBTQ Catholics: Redeeming a Complicated Tradition,” at Knott Lecture Hall in the evening, discussing how it is possible for the Church and Church-adjacent institutions to change if they begin to listen to and learn from the experiences of LGBTQ Catholics at the grassroots.

Physician Assistant Studies

A big welcome to our first cohort of physician assistant students, who have arrived on campus for orientation! This group of 27 future PA’s will begin their coursework in October, as Notre Dame becomes the first private college in Maryland to offer a physician’s assistant master’s degree.

Morrissy Honors Program

Congratulations to current juniors Anna Choudhary and Eliza Davis, who presented research during last Friday’s 2023 Bmore Historic Unconference at the Baltimore Museum of Industry!
Choudhary and Davis, who are both members of NDMU’s Morrissy Honors Program, discussed their work this year researching the Baltimore Women’s Industrial Exchange through an internship with the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center. The research project is led by another Notre Dame alum, Dr. Amy Rosenkrans ’93, D’17.
School of Education
Rashaad Johnson, a graduate student in the School of Education, presented "Becoming a Hero: The Use of RPGs as a Social Builder" at the annual AnimeUSA convention in Arlington, Virginia, last weekend.
The presentation, which challenged audience members to think of play more meaningfully, asserted that roleplaying games (RPGs) can and have been used effectively in educational and therapeutic practice. It explored how teachers and therapists can best unlock the values of games in their audience, the pros and cons of utilizing games as tools in their trades, and ways traditional educators and therapists can communicate with their gamer audience.

It will also provide tips for locating images that can be freely used under Creative Commons licenses or the public domain.
