School of Pharmacy Travels to Annapolis for Legislative Day

A large group of students in NDMU's School of Pharmacy traveled to Annapolis on February 8 to take part in the annual Maryland Pharmacy Coalition Legislative Day!

Along with representatives from Maryland’s other pharmacy schools, students advocated for the profession and voiced their support for several pharmacy-related bills while meeting with legislators in our state capital. Philip Do D’25 represented Notre Dame as co-chair of the MPC Legislative Day Committee.

Black History Exhibition on Display at Civera Gallery

Thanks to all who attended last Thursday’s Black History Exhibition in Civera Gallery! The exhibition, which remains on display, showcases a diverse range of artistic expressions, historical narratives, and educational resilience of Black individuals, highlighting their contributions to our shared history in Maryland.

Thanks to staff and faculty members from our Art Department and the Loyola Notre Dame Library who helped support the event, and a special shoutout to the students who assisted in recording voiceovers for the exhibition.

Physician Assistant Studies

Dr. Jack Goble, director of NDMU's Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program, was featured in a recent PA Education Association (PAEA) article titled "Lessons Learned: Tips on Starting a New PA Program." In the article, Dr. Goble discusses elements that lead to success when initializing a new PA program.

School of Arts, Sciences, & Business

Dr. Nicole Dular, assistant professor in NDMU's Philosophy Department, will be presenting original research at the Central Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association this Thursday. Her paper, “Moral Distortions,” was selected by blind peer review for a symposium session. The selection process is competitive, with an acceptance rate of less than 15 percent.

An additional paper by Dr. Dular, co-authored with Madeline Ward and titled "The Harms of the Internalized Oppression Worry," has also been accepted for publication at the Journal of Social Philosophy.

NDMU students enrolled in a General Microbiology lab class taught by Dr. David Wade have discovered paramecium in the stream that runs alongside the Loyola Notre Dame Library. The first lab of the semester in General Microbiology included a microscopic examination of pond water. A sample of that water was acquired and examined microscopically, using the hanging drop technique. Almost immediately, a couple of paramecium could be seen feeding on algae.

Paramecium - single celled, motile (via cilia) microbes - have been known since the late 1600s, and are widespread in water environments. According to Dr. Wade, it is probably a good sign that the stream contains viable paramecia, as there are numerous scientific reports about various environmental toxins that can harm them.

Dr. Matthew Shimoda, Dr. Sharon Park, Dr. James Culhane, Dr. Jennifer Bailey, and Dr. Asish Dutta traveled to Phoenix, Arizona for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Interim Meeting, which was held from February 10-12. The conference, INtegrate 2024, provided three days of networking, learning and action planning. Attendees gained new ideas and fresh perspectives to help them develop solutions to address their most pressing problems.
