Who Can Apply?

We accept applications from anyone whose native language is not English. This includes international students, visitors, au pairs, U.S. residents, and others.

Requirements

All applicants must:

  • Be at least 17 years old;
  • Have completed secondary school;
  • Be at a high beginner level (know the English alphabet and be able to speak in simple present tense)

The ELI does not currently offer classes for low beginner level students.

Application Process

F-1 Visa Applicants
Complete Online Application
Submit a copy of passport photo page or US State ID
Submit a copy of most recent transcript or diploma
Submit a bank statement or letter from bank (US or International is fine) stating account balance in US Dollars, dated from within the last 6 months (minimum required balance is $6,000). Personal accounts only, business accounts are not accepted.
If applicant is not the owner of the account, then a letter of financial support from the person named on the bank statement. Template can be found here.
F-1 transfer students will also need to submit copies of all previous I-20s and a transfer request form.
Submit payment of Registration Fee
Submit payment of I-20 Processing Fee
Receive email from ELI administration notifying you that all documents have been received and processed
schedule shipping for your I-20 and acceptance letter
Receive an acceptance packet and information about new student orientation
Non F-1 Visa Applicants
Complete Online Application
Submit a copy of passport photo page or US State ID
Submit a copy of most recent transcript or diploma
Submit payment of Registration Fee
Receive email from ELI administration notifying you that all documents have been received and processed
