FNPs must obtain licensure for the state in which they wish to practice. While licensing guidelines vary from state to state, all prospective and current students need to know if they have met the requirements to practice in their preferred state, do they have the appropriate education and certification required and does their training/experience match the APRN role scope of practice required to practice? *At this time, the Puerto Rico Board of Nursing is considered an associate member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), but no final determination has been made as to the level of equivalency that may or may not exist between Puerto Rico’s licensing standards and practice privileges and those in other US licensing jurisdictions
"The path to licensure typically entails earning a bachelor of science degree, submitting an application, and sitting for the NCLEX-RN exam.
To be eligible for licensure, APRN professionals must hold a master’s degree, meet continuing education requirements, and pass national certification examinations related to their nursing specialty.
Depending on their desired population focus, family nurse practitioners can earn national certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)."
"The American Association of Nurse Practitioners empowers all NPs to advance quality health care through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership.
