BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland University’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program was recently granted initial accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
The accreditation status is for five years, and it arrives following the graduation of Notre Dame’s first cohort of occupational therapy students this summer.
“The OTD program is excited to have obtained its initial accreditation from ACOTE, which recognizes the dedication of the administration, faculty, staff, and students,” said Dr. Ivelisse Lazzarini, professor and director of the Occupational Therapy program. “This accreditation reflects a commitment to providing students with a robust curriculum, ensuring that they are well prepared to excel in occupational therapy practice.”
The process of obtaining program accreditation is based on a comprehensive evaluation that focuses on curricular content, pedagogical quality, faculty qualifications, and student outcomes.
ACOTE ensures quality occupational therapy education by developing accreditation standards and verifying implementation to support the preparation of competent occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants.
