Prior to joining the faculty at NDMU Dr. Carpenter served as Assistant Professor of Nonprofit Management at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Nonprofit Financial Management, Fundraising, Human Resources, Nonprofit Technology, and Voluntarism and the Nonprofit Sector to graduate and undergraduate students.
She earned a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies with a Specialization in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego and a Master of Management in Nonprofit Administration from North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. In addition, she previously served as Operations Manager for several nonprofit organizations in California and Illinois.
We are excited about Dr. Carpenter’s previous experience managing nonprofit organizations, her teaching philosophy and research agenda focused on experiential education and the nonprofit workforce, which are deeply connected to NDMU’s mission. -Dean Franklin
Dr. Carpenter’s research focuses on nonprofit management education, experiential education and professional development. She is co-author of the Jossey-Bass nonprofit guidebook: The Talent Development Platform: Putting People First in Social Change Organizations and she partners with many national nonprofit organizations to promote and support nonprofit careers and the nonprofit sector.

About the MA in Nonprofit Management
Established in 1999, our program equips current and future nonprofit leaders to effectively manage the challenges, risks and opportunities in nonprofit management. Courses emphasize leadership, resource management, program development, fundraising and strategic planning.
