BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland’s School of Nursing hosted an induction ceremony in Doyle Formal on Sunday, welcoming 43 new members to the Mu Eta Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Induction into the prestigious honor society is open to undergraduate, registered nurse, and graduate students who meet several academic standards. Nursing professionals who were not previously inducted as students are also eligible to join as a Nurse Leader.

Sunday’s ceremony included the induction of seven new nurse leaders, all of whom are recent NDMU alumni. Dr. Marleen Thornton, former president of the chapter and a current associate professor in the School of Nursing, delivered opening remarks for the event, highlighting some of her recent research on intergenerational learning.

“The Mu Eta chapter of Sigma at NDMU was founded almost 33 years ago, and has a rich history of leadership, scholarship, and community among our members,” said Dr. Katelyn Barley, current president of the chapter and an assistant professor in the School of Nursing. “I believe in the benefits of being a member of this organization, and I am proud of all the new members who have accepted membership. The faculty that assisted me in planning the induction were invaluable! The Sigma leadership team also owes its thanks to School of Nursing dean Kathy Wisser for her unwavering support of our chapter.”

The Mu Eta Chapter currently has 137 members in Sigma. A gallery of photos from Sunday’s ceremony is available below.
