Full text to President Yam’s campus message:
During these unprecedented times of required responsiveness and the rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic, NDMU has the responsibility to keep our community and the health of our students as our utmost priority. To that end, NDMU is extending our cancellation of face-to-face classes for the rest of the spring 2020 semester. From March 23 through the remainder of the semester, all classes will proceed via remote instruction.
With the number of Coronavirus cases quickly increasing, locally and in our nation, it was very important for us look ahead in the coming weeks and see how social distancing and staying at home are some of the major factors involved in dampening the spread of COVID-19. By extending the cancellation of face-to-face classes we are lowering all of our chances of being exposed to COVID-19.
In addition, all on-campus events scheduled during March and April are cancelled. An update regarding athletic activities will be forthcoming by April 6th. Additional information regarding the collection of belongings in the residence halls will be forthcoming.
We know this decision will have a major impact on many of you, but again your health and our community’s health is most important to us and we are here to support you. Please continue to visit daily the NDMU COVID-19 Information Page for the most recent updates.
Kindly know that NDMU has not made a decision concerning Commencement 2020. We know this is a very important day for our students who have competed or are completing their degree program requirements. This is also a milestone moment for family, friends, and the entire NDMU community who are looking forward to celebrating with you. We hope to be able to proceed as scheduled. However, we want to assure you that even if changes are made to Commencement 2020, it will still occur and will be rescheduled if needed. We know this celebration is a big part of your NDMU experience and we will keep you updated with any changes as they occur.
My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you and your families. Thank you for your patience as we all navigate this new territory together.
