Dr. James Culhane earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Washington and Jefferson College and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from West Virginia University School of Medicine. After completing his doctoral degree, he served for 10 years as a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and Nursing. In 2008, he joined Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy as the founding Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and is now a Professor and Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Academic Success. Dr. Culhane is an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and holds an advanced academic coaching certification through the National Tutoring Association. He has received numerous teaching awards, including the Wilkes University Carpenter Award for Excellence in 2007 and the Notre Dame of Maryland University Mullan Distinguished Teaching Award in 2023. Dr. Culhane has delivered national presentations on evidence-based learning strategies, metacognition development, and the role of academic coaching in student success. His book, Evidence-Based Study Methods for Student Pharmacists, published by the American Pharmacists Association, highlights much of his work in these areas.
