Calling all Rising 9th to 12th grade high school students – Apply for the inaugural SNACC Summer Camp!

This immersive 3-day experience is a great way for you and your friends to explore the nursing profession. SNACCC blends hands-on experiences in a state-of-the-art simulation center that offers a hospital-like environment with high-tech equipment, including virtual reality and high-fidelity human patient simulators, fun classroom sessions, field trips, and conversations with current nursing students.

  • Camp dates: June 23rd – 25th
  • Class size is limited to 30 students
  • Camp hours are 9 to 3:30
  • Drop off beginning at 8:30 with pick at 3:30
  • Lunch is included

  • Apply now! Admission is on a rolling basis beginning February 1, 2025. Applications are due June 1, 2025!

Cost

  • $325 (all three days, individual days are not available)
  • Sibling, faculty & staff discounts offered
  • Camp includes a t-shirt, supplies, lunch, and snacks
  • A full payment of $325 will be required upon submission

Session Details

Session 1 – Monday, June 23rd from 9 – 12

Welcome and review of week

Germs are everywhere!!

Campers will learn about microorganisms in the environment and how good handwashing minimizes exposure.

  • Handwashing experience
  • Germglow on surfaces

Standard Precautions

Campers will learn about precautions for blood and body fluids in the healthcare environment, as well as ways to protect oneself against respiratory pathogens.

Why are vital signs vital?

Campers will learn which vital signs are important and how to perform them on patients through the lifespan.

Head to Toe assessment

Campers will experience completing a head to toe assessment on a manikin and will learn what’s important in each system in the body for assessment.

Session 2 – Monday, June 23rd from 1 – 3:15

I can’t see: Performing eye exams

Campers will learn about performing eye exams and will “try it out” on each other.

I can’t see, hear or feel: Caring for the patient with sensory loss

Campers will use dark glasses, cotton balls and gloves to simulate loss of vision, hearing and touch. They will practice filling a medication box as someone with sensory loss.

Oh my aching back!

Students will learn about the spine and receive an explanation of scoliosis. Students will be able to assess curvature of the spine on each other and the instructor.

Session 3 – Tuesday, June 24th from 9 – 12

Help me Nurse!

Campers will be shown a hospital bed and the resources available in a typical hospital room. They will be shown various assistive equipment used by patients.

  • Hospital bed, wheelchair, walker, crutches, Hoyer lift, bedside commode etc.
  • Available equipment on backboard

My bandage needs changed!

Campers will receive information on a common dressing change in the clinical setting and will be able to perform a dressing change on a task trainer using real medical grade supplies.

  • Seymore butts and dressing supplies; wet to dry dressing change
Session 4 – Tuesday, June 24th from 1 – 3:15

Mini lecture on medication administration

Campers will enjoy a “mini lecture” on medication administration, talk about a patient case and practice giving medications to a simulated patient.

Session 5 – Wednesday, June 25th from 9 – 12

LNDL library (9 – 10:30)

Campers will explore the library and receive a tour of the Maker space for creating unique objects including 3-D printing. Campers will also try out Virtual Reality in the multimedia room.

How do I become a Registered Nurse?

Campers will enjoy a short power point on how they can become a RN!

Selfcare for the nurse – guided meditation

  • Campers will enjoy a short, guided meditation for calming nerves and provide self-care.
Session 6 – Wednesday, June 25th from 1 – 3:15

Oh mama, the baby’s coming!

Campers will see a simulated baby delivery, the highlight for our school groups that visit the CCT. They will also learn the steps of newborn care after delivery.

Help me! I need CPR!!

Campers will get a review of CPR and will perform on a manikin patient. They will also review basic first aid for common injuries and placing a call for emergency services.
