BALTIMORE – More than 20 women leaders came together yesterday to celebrate the opening of the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame exhibit in its new home in Notre Dame of Maryland University’s Knott Science and Innovation Center.

Notre Dame President Marylou Yam led a ceremonial ribbon cutting with Judith Vaughan-Prather, executive director of the
Maryland Commission for Women, and Diana Bailey, executive director of the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center, joining members of the women’s commission and the heritage center’s board of directors.

Located just off the lobby of the Knott Science and Innovation Center, the one-of-a-kind exhibit showcases plaques representing the more than 200 inductees to the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame. Every March during Women's History Month, the Maryland Commission for Women honors the newest inductees at a special ceremony.

“The Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame exhibit has transformed this lobby into a place of inspiration and promise for our students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the public, who pass through these doors,” said President Yam. “The women featured here encourage us all to dream big, use our gifts and talents in service to others, and lead fearlessly. Their example of excellence inspires our students – the next generation of leaders – to make their own lasting contributions to society through their future careers and service endeavors.”

Established in 1985 by the Maryland Commission for Women and the Women Legislators of Maryland, the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame annually recognizes women from the state for their lasting contributions to society. The Maryland Heritage Women Center housed the exhibit for many years until the organization no longer had space. With the reopening of the University’s newly renovated Knott Science and Innovation Center in fall 2023, the exhibit returns to public display.

Established in 1895, Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is a private, Catholic institution in Baltimore, Maryland, with the mission to educate leaders to transform the world. Notre Dame has been named one of the best "Regional Universities North" by U.S. News & World Report.
