Occupational Therapy at NDMU

The Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program is an entry-level pathway for those with a non-occupational therapy bachelor's degree to pursue a career in this in-demand field.

At Notre Dame of Maryland University, OT academic coursework and fieldwork are integrated into a curriculum that’s occupation-sustainable-focused, evidence-based, client-centered, and organized from an engaged-meaningful life perspective. You’ll learn the practical use of theoretical concepts embedded in the evidence supporting practice, and learn occupational therapy with professors and practitioners known in national and international communities.

Starting in your first semester and throughout the three year entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy curriculum, you’ll engage in an excellent range of clinical experience through Level I Fieldwork (4) and Level II Fieldwork (2) placements chosen from NDMU’s network of local and national clinical sites.  You’ll also complete a Doctoral Practicum and capstone project focused on your particular professional interests in one of the following areas: sustainability and health, clinical, community practice, policy and advocacy, or education.

Throughout the program, you’ll have close communication and individual attention from our diverse and interprofessional faculty. Many of your classes will be small seminar style; your largest lecture will have about 20 students.

Regardless of your undergraduate area of study, our program is designed to fully prepare you to take the NBCOT National Certification Examination. After passing the exam, you’ll be ready to enter clinical practice with confidence.
