Bio

Heather Folz, PharmD, BCACP is an associate professor and clinical specialist in ambulatory care.  She earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree at Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences in Buies Creek, NC.  After graduation, she completed a PGY-1 in community pharmacy with Kroger and Union University in Jackson, TN followed by a PGY-2 in ambulatory care with an emphasis in academia and disease prevention and wellness with Butler University in Indianapolis, IN.

Dr. Folz initiated and provided clinical pharmacy services using drug therapy management agreements (DTMAs) in two primary care offices at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where she practiced as an ambulatory care pharmacist specialist for seven years. She currently practices in family medicine as a preceptor for medical residents and pharmacy students at MedStar Franklin Square Family Health Center.

At NDMU, she has served as chair of the School of Pharmacy (SOP) Curriculum Committee and member of the Student Wellness Taskforce as well as several University Committees including the University Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee (UCAP).

She received the SOP Faculty Mentor Award from the Class of 2019 and the University’s Inaugural Research and Scholarship Award in 2023.

For her collaborative research incorporating hands-on continuous glucose monitoring pedagogy to improve knowledge, empathy, and practice readiness, NDMU and High Point University were awarded the 2022 National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Innovation & Diversity in Pharmacy Education grant.

Her interests include, student wellness, diabetes management, immunizations, and innovations in teaching and learning.
