(BALTIMORE, Md.) – Recognized for academic excellence and exceptional student support, Notre Dame of Maryland University continues to achieve high honors as one of the nation’s top universities in separate rankings by College Consensus and Colleges of Distinction.
As Maryland’s only women’s college and a comprehensive Catholic university, Notre Dame is ranked as the nation’s 11th best women’s college and among the nation’s top 25 Catholic colleges and universities by College Consensus. NDMU is #8 on the list of Best Colleges and Universities in Maryland.
Notre Dame’s high-quality online programs also received top recognition from College Consensus, placing #10 out of the nation’s best Catholic colleges and universities and #5 among Maryland’s best colleges and universities. The online doctoral programs also appeared on the College Consensus top 100 list.
“The rankings reaffirm Notre Dame of Maryland University’s mission to provide students with a transformational education that prepares them to become leaders and the best versions of themselves,” said President Marylou Yam. “Intellectual excellence, personal development and social responsibility are at the foundation of the Notre Dame experience, advancing our more than 125-year legacy of preparing students and graduates to change the world.”
College Consensus builds an all-encompassing, aggregate ranking of colleges, combining the rankings of prominent publishers, like WalletHub, The Wall Street Journal, and U.S. News & World Report, to determine a Publisher Rating. It also collects ratings from reputable student reviews, including Cappex, Niche, and Students Review, to create an overall Student Review Rating. The result is a Consensus Rating that ranks colleges and universities objectively and subjectively.
Colleges of Distinction also recognized Notre Dame as a top college or university in the nation and in the state, highlighting strengths in the business, education and nursing programs. With a focus on educating the whole person, NDMU’s academic programs teach students to solve problems ethically and make a difference in the world.
Notre Dame’s commitment to hands-on education was also celebrated by Colleges of Distinction for the career development program. The NDMU’s Career Center infuses career education into academic and experiential learning to enhance students’ professional skills. In addition to preparing students for internship or job searches, the Career Center provides access to an online job and internship database of businesses and organizations that recruit Notre Dame students and alumni.
Colleges of Distinction selects top schools using in-depth research and detailed interviews about the first-year experience and retention efforts, along with a review of the general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more. The best schools adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes, which reflect how institutions create a fulfilling, individualized experience for students.
