NDMU Rises in U.S. News and World Report Rankings and Tops in Maryland
U.S. News and World Report ranked Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) as tied for No. 59 in its Regional Universities North classification. NDMU was also ranked as tied for No. 22 in its Top Performers on Social Mobility classification, the highest of any Maryland institution in this regional category.
“We are proud to be ranked among the region’s top universities,” says NDMU President Marylou Yam. “These rankings are a testament to the great work that happens with our students inside and outside of the classroom at NDMU.”
The Top Performers on Social Mobility category is new to the publication’s annual rankings. It evaluates which schools best serve underrepresented students. Using Pell Grants as a proxy measure, the ranking looks at enrollment and graduation rates of low-income students. The vast majority of these federal grants are awarded to students whose adjusted gross family incomes are under $50,000.
“This category, in particular, is very important to our University and is a proof point to how we uphold our mission and lead with making higher education accessible,” says President Yam.
U.S. News and World Report formulates its rankings on 15 various indicators to determine “academic quality.” Some of these include student outcomes, graduation and retention rates, social mobility, faculty resources, expert opinion, student excellence and alumnae and alumni giving. The publication does not rank all universities or colleges and presently includes just under 1,400 institutions.
Notre Dame of Maryland University is a private, Catholic university established in 1895 with the mission to educate leaders to transform the world. The University enrolls approximately 2400 students and has Schools of Arts, Sciences, and Business; Education; Nursing; and Pharmacy. Additionally, the University also offers programs for adult students online and at several additional locations across the state.
