English Language Institute, NDMU Class of 2015

“I truly believe that the ELI provides many tools and surroundings that will help you improve your English skills. So, just come and have fun! You will feel that this is your home.” What’s Next for David: Transfer to Morgan State University from CCBC to study Engineering

David Pembamoto is a 2015 ELI alumnus from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and he stopped by a few weeks ago for a visit. He kindly took a few minutes to tell us about his fond memories of NDMU, his current studies, and his future plans.

When asked about his favorite ELI teacher, he replied with a smile. “All the teachers were my favorite. However, I would say I especially enjoyed Ms. Tina’s class because we played a lot. Having fun, experiencing diverse cultures, and learning from learning music, were all highlights. It was actually more of a culture learning class.” he said.

He believes his English improved more than 70% while he was here in the ELI, and now he feels well-prepared to use English. He really enjoyed the activities every semester the ELI offers, such as local trips, going to parks and having picnics. Through the various activities, he was able broaden his understanding of many different cultures, including the American culture!

David is currently studying Engineering at CCBC and planning to transfer to Morgan State University in the future. His plan is to complete a degree in Civil Engineering. He has made friends with many people from all over the world, and credits this to his time studying at the ELI.

David confided in us that his secret to excellent English skills is to try to keep learning. He added, “I truly believe that the ELI provides many tools and surroundings that will help you improve your English skills. So, just COME and have FUN! You will feel that here is your HOME.”

Thank you for your time and kind words, David! We wish you all the best!
