Due Date to Enroll or Waive Benefits: August 30th

All full-time undergraduate studies students have until August 30th to make their choice and either enroll or waive the insurance plan through United Health Care’s online system if they do not wish to pay for the University’s student health insurance plan.

Note: Those who do not opt-out will be billed for this coverage through the University’s Business Office as part of their student bill.

Enrollment Process

The enrollment/waiver process is an annual process to be completed only by full-time NDMU undergraduate or graduate students. Notification will be sent via NDMU email prior to the start of each fall semester.

Step 1

Go to firststudent.com and select “Notre Dame of Maryland University” from the drop down menu.

Step 2

On the left hand side, select “Enroll Now-Health Insurance."

Step 3

Scroll until you see the "Enroll Now" icon, and click it to proceed.

Step 4

You will need your University student account ID number (5-7 digit number which can be found at the top of your University bill) in order to create an account.

If you are a first-year or transfer student, this will be the 5-7 digit number on the bottom right page of your IT paperwork.

Please enter the student ID account number as listed. If by chance you receive an error message, try entering a zero (0) before the number (i.e., if your number is 123456, you would enter 0123456). If you continue to receive an error message, please contact First Risk Advisors at 1-800-505-4160 so they can verify your information in the system.

Please note that this is NOT your University ID 16-digit bar code number.

Step 5

Please enter your University student account ID number and birthday in the spaces provided.

Step 6

  • After you have logged into the system, you will be prompted to enter your information and details surrounding your enrollment in the University-sponsored health insurance coverage.
  • When you have completed the information, please select "Submit."
  • You will receive notification to your NDMU email that your enrollment has been confirmed.
  • If you do not receive an email notification, please contact First Risk Advisors at 1-800-505-4160 for the status of your enrollment.

You will be billed to your University tuition bill, so please make sure to factor this into your overall payment plan.
