Message to the NDMU Community on the Death of a Student

The University sent a message on Monday, October 14, to students, faculty and staff members on the death of Amayah Charles, a sophomore in the School of Nursing.

Dear NDMU Community,

It is with great sorrow that I am passing on the tragic news that a member of our Notre Dame of Maryland University Community, passed away today. Notre Dame sophomore, Amayah Charles was involved in a fatal automobile collision this morning.

We know you join us in conveying the deepest sorrow and most sincere condolences of the entire NDMU Community to Amayah’s family. She will be greatly missed by all of us. We as a community, come together as a family and support each other – this is one of those times when it is imperative that we are able to lean on each other for support during this difficult time.  Our campus community is available to you.

Please join us today, now until 4:00 p.m. in the Marikle Chapel (2nd floor Theresa Hall) for a community prayer and discussion. 

  • Fr. John McCloskey, NDMU chaplain is available from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. in Theresa Hall room 216.
  • Sr. Mary Kerber (Campus Ministry) will be available at 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Theresa Hall room 116.
  • For immediate needs, Amy Provan, director of NDMU’s Counseling Center will be in her office (013 Theresa Hall, next to the Counseling Center) from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. tonight.
  • Doyle Hall meditation chapel is also available for quiet and private reflection.

To set up a specific time to meet with a NDMU counselor, please set up an appointment.
