The GEI program structures the courses and student teaching in a way that allowed me to see the ideas and theories from my coursework put into action in the classrooms at my placement schools. I was able to develop knowledge and experiences with help from mentors, professors, coaches, and other students.

Notre Dame provided me with a unique and valuable experience of classroom theory and strategy, combined with practical work experience in multiple student-teaching placements. I made great relationships with fellow classmates as well as professors.

The MAT/GEI program allows you to obtain the necessary skills to become an educator and utilize resources and support from your classmates, professors, and supervisors to advance your career. The convenience of this program helps one gain a professional presence to lead a classroom as well as practice teaching in real classrooms in an internship that is longer than most programs.

The GEI/MAT program was everything I was looking for. This cohort prepares you for success in and out of the classroom while also building lifelong relationships with your peers and mentors. Looking back I have nothing but great things to say about this program and how much it molded me into the teacher I am today.

After undergrad, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, but hadn't majored in education. I expected to feel comparably prepared for the classroom following my 10 months in GEI as students who spent four college years studying education, and GEI did not disappoint. The combination of intensive pedagogical study, daily feet-on-the-ground classroom experiences, and 10-month timeline make for a program that surpasses all expectations.

Notre Dame provided me with the tools, experience, and knowledge of special education and differentiation necessary to meet the needs of all students. I look forward to being able to serve my community, the one I grew up in, as a teacher. I hope to inspire students to love art. What’s Next for Erin: Anne Arundel County Public Schools

Notre Dame helped me discover my passion for storytelling through the writing courses I have taken…My experience at NDMU has not only helped me sharpen my writing and communication skills but it has given me the confidence boost I needed to believe in my ability to tell stories. I look forward to traveling to new places, meeting interesting people, feeling the adrenaline rush of a buzzing newsroom, and developing my voice as a journalist. NDMU has opened my eyes to people's different experiences. A lot of my classes were discussion-based, so I learned how to listen and communicate well with others, especially those who have a different life experience than me… I am looking forward to student teaching. I’m excited to start applying everything I have learned at Notre Dame and I cannot wait to create relationships with students and start planning lessons in the classroom. Notre Dame taught me to communicate confidently and effectively. Beyond this, I learned practical skills…I am looking forward to challenging myself to be the best I can be in my career field. I got my first research experience at Notre Dame working in the biology department. I can credit the University with connecting me to the lab I’m going to be working in this year. I first started working in [the] lab through NDMU’s Sister Alma program…Now, I’m looking forward to completing some of the research projects I’ve been working on over the past year and hopefully getting my work published.
